2-Hydroxyethyl Acrylate
2-Hydroxyethyl acrylate is an acrylic ester containing both a polymerizable carbon-carbon double bond and a hydroxyl functional group. These functions make it useful as a reactive monomer in polymer systems where hydroxyl functionality is required for subsequent reaction or property modification.
Overview
Product information
2-Hydroxyethyl acrylate is an acrylic ester containing both a polymerizable carbon-carbon double bond and a hydroxyl functional group. These functions make it useful as a reactive monomer in polymer systems where hydroxyl functionality is required for subsequent reaction or property modification.
It is used in the preparation of acrylic polymers, coatings, adhesives and related resin systems. Commercial material is normally stabilized against premature polymerization, so inhibitor content and product grade should be confirmed against Hamara’s final supply specification.

General guidance
Handling and storage
Supplier SDS information indicates that hydroxyethyl acrylate should be handled with appropriate skin and eye protection and with adequate ventilation. Because the monomer can polymerize, it should be protected from heat and incompatible contamination and stored under the conditions specified by the current supplier SDS. This summary does not replace the current SDS.
Applications
Application information
- Reactive monomer for acrylic polymers
- Coating and resin formulations
- Adhesive and polymer modification
- Preparation of hydroxyl-functional polymers
