Poly Vinyl Alcohol (PVA)
Polyvinyl alcohol is a water-soluble synthetic polymer whose properties depend strongly on molecular weight and degree of hydrolysis. Commercial PVA therefore represents a family of grades rather than one material with a single molecular weight, viscosity or dissolution profile.
Overview
Product information
Polyvinyl alcohol is a water-soluble synthetic polymer whose properties depend strongly on molecular weight and degree of hydrolysis. Commercial PVA therefore represents a family of grades rather than one material with a single molecular weight, viscosity or dissolution profile.
PVA is used as a film-forming, binding, protective-colloid and formulation polymer in adhesives, paper, coatings, textiles and other industrial systems. A useful Hamara catalogue page should identify the hydrolysis and viscosity or molecular-weight grade rather than presenting one generic specification.

Handling and storage
MilliporeSigma SDS information for PVA grades recommends avoiding dust accumulation and unnecessary inhalation, using normal protective measures and storing the material closed and dry. Some finely divided grades may present a combustible-dust concern. Exact controls depend on particle form and grade and should follow the current product SDS. This summary does not replace that SDS.
