Overview

Product information

Sodium hydroxide is a strong inorganic base commonly supplied as solid pellets, flakes or concentrated aqueous solution. The solid absorbs moisture from air, and dissolution or neutralization releases substantial heat.

It is widely used for pH control, neutralization, chemical synthesis, soap and detergent manufacture, pulp and paper processing and other alkaline industrial operations. The supplied inventory lists both 99% flakes and 50% solution. These should be treated as separate commercial forms for specifications and safety documentation even though both use CAS 1310-73-2.

General guidance

Handling and storage

Sodium hydroxide SDS guidance requires eye, face and skin protection against severe corrosive contact. Avoid dust or mist generation and take care during dilution because considerable heat can be released. Keep solid and solution products tightly closed in compatible containers, protected from incompatible materials. Exact handling differs between flakes and concentrated solutions and should follow the relevant SDS.
