Overview

Product information

Caustic soda flakes are a solid commercial form of sodium hydroxide. The material is strongly alkaline, hygroscopic and dissolves in water with substantial heat release.

In mineral processing, solid sodium hydroxide can be used to prepare alkaline solutions for pH adjustment, reagent preparation and selected hydrometallurgical operations. The supplied inventory states 99% flakes or pearls, but flakes and pearls are physical forms rather than separate chemicals. Hamara should confirm actual assay, carbonate content and supplied form before publishing the grade.

General guidance

Handling and storage

Solid sodium hydroxide is strongly corrosive and hygroscopic. SDS guidance requires eye, face and skin protection and avoidance of dust. Keep containers tightly closed and dry. Dissolution is strongly exothermic, so addition to water must follow controlled procedures and the current product SDS.
